A Comparison of Omega Juicers: Centrifugal, Masticating, & Citrus

Omega juicers are some of the best juicers for people who are serious about quality but don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a top-of-the-line pro-sumer machine.

Omega makes different styles of juicers spanning the centrifugal, citrus, and masticating classes but they are most known for their slow masticating juicers.

Most juicing enthusiasts believe Omega juicers to be some of the best you can buy, especially when price is taken into consideration.

You should also know that each of the Omega juicers have a model number that ends in a letter corresponding to it’s color.

For instance the NC800HDC ends in “C” which corresponds to “Chrome”. The NC800HDR ends in “R” which would correspond to “Red”. Other color codes include “S” for Silver and “B” for Black.

► VSJ843Q 43 RPM Vertical Square Low-Speed Juicer
This unit uses the slowest RPM speed of them all to help prevent nutrient loss.

► VRT400HD Premium Vertical Low Speed Juicer
This is an upgrade from the older VRT350. Only a few details were changed like the adding of the juice flap, the widening of the intake chute, and the redesigned mount for the juice container to help minimize jamming.

► MMV700 MegaMouth Vertical Low-Speed Juicer
This juicer is a pinch more expensive than the other two Omega vertical units but the main point of differentiation between this unit and the other two is really the intake chute. The 60 RPMs of this unit falls between the VRT400 and the VSJ843 meaning it will be very good at keeping heat to a minimum but it won’t be extraordinarily slow.

When you calculate the time savings in veggie cutting you will probably find this machine fairly quick to use. The mouth is a full 3″ in diameter so it will be able to accept many more fruits and veggies whole than either of the other two vertical slow juicers.

► C2000 Large Chute High Speed Juicer
This is the lowest price option for an Omega juicers that can handle most foods. It has few bells and whistles but gets the job done quickly for a low price.

• High speed juicer with a low, high, and pulse setting
• includes a 4-cup pulp catching pitcher
• 250 watt motor
• food intake chute measures 2.5″ in diameter which can accommodate many whole foods but not all
• light weight 5.5 pounds makes it easy to move around but you will have to hold it down while juicing as it may want to walk.

► C2100 X-Large Chute High Speed Juicer
Although this is still a very inexpensive centrifugal juice extractor it is a much more useful machine than the cheaper and smaller C2000. The motor is much bigger, the food chute is bigger, and it comes with a 2-year warranty making it a good value for this type of juicer.

The motor weighs 4.8 pounds according to my scale at home.

► J4000 High-Speed Pulp Ejection Juicer
This high-speed juicer hit the market almost two decades ago and is arguably the centrifugal juicer most copied by many modern companies. This unit is still a best-seller due to it’s high quality motor which is mostly unmatched in the product class. The J4000 uses a high-speed motor with more torque and durability and fewer RPMs. Measuring 1/3 horsepower this unit is a borderline commercial grade machine that will last for a long time – the motor itself weight 7.4 pounds according to my bathroom scale.

• Oval shaped food chute opening
• surgical stainless steel cutting blades and juicing bowl that can be fully disassembled for cleaning
• 17 pounds and more compact than the larger C2100

♦ So What’s the Difference Between All the Omega Juicers?

Most of the Omega juicers are premium pieces of equipment with the exception of their entry level citrus juicer and their two entry-level centrifugal juicers. You should expect premium construction and performance from all their units.

Having said that within the three main juicer styles each Omega juicer is slightly different so let’s briefly compare them in overview and then I’ll provide links to direct head-to-head product comparisons that I’ve published on this site.

▼ Which Omega Vertical Slow Juicer is Best? What Set’s Them Apart?

Obviously each of the three vertical juices made by Omega are enthusiast would be happy with but there are a few details other than price that sets them apart.

The Food Chute
For starters if you don’t like the extra prep-work of cutting whole foods into smaller pieced before juicing then the MMV700 MegaMouth is a must have despite the slightly higher price tag. The food intake chute is a 3″ circle compared to significantly smaller oval chutes on the VRT400 or the VSJ843.

The RPMs
For those that care mostly about the slow speed of the auger then the VSJ843 should easily be your first choice.

The single auger features a double edge and spins at a slow 43 revolutions per minute. Although this can slow the juicing process down a bit more it will ensure the least amount of nutrient loss possible as the cellular structure of the juice remains undamaged.

Of course the “faster speeds” of the MegaMouth and the VRT400 are still very slow when compared to centrifugal juicers they simply don’t make juice to the same quality level as the VSJ843.

Best Value
Overall the strength of the VRT400 is as the value play.

To use a somewhat pedestrian term it is a jack-of-all-trades machine that does a good job of everything but doesn’t really focus on anything in particular.

As a vertical machine it performs very well as a slow juicer for all types and kinds of fruits and vegetables all while not slowing down to a near crawl.

It’s list price is comparable to the other two machines but it is frequently sold for less making a great target for sale acquisitions.

Also, if you just don’t like the glacial speed of some super low RPM machines this is a good alternative to lower oxidation of your juicing over high-speed juicers without getting totally crazy.
